Wi-SUN Alliance Newsletter
Message from Phil Beecher, Chairman
Dear Wi-SUN Alliance Members,
We ended 2016 with a lot of momentum and have carried this through into 2017.
In January we welcomed Itron as a Promoter member and look forward to their commitment to promoting the Wi-SUN Alliance.
In February we had a strong presence at the DistribuTECH Conference in San Diego, CA. This year's DistribuTECH once again confirmed that Utilities are committed to adopting open standards technology as the best way to support multiple vendor solutions for advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), distribution automation (DA) and smart cities.
Earlier this month Wi-SUN exhibited as a technology partner at the India Smart Grid Week in New Delhi. Wi-SUN Alliance personnel participated in three panel sessions covering: smart grid modernization, communications and cyber security and water and gas utilities.
I would like to congratulate Amarjeet Kumar, Wi-SUN's Regional Coordinator for India, who was the winner of the India Smart Grid Forum’s (ISGF) President's Award for his work on promoting smart grids throughout India. This coincides with the publication of IEEE 802.15.4u, a standard which specifies RF operation for India and for which Amarjeet was Vice Chair.
The first quarter of 2017 has seen a large growth in our membership which has now reached 130 companies including major Utility companies from South America and India.
We have relaunched our Global Marketing committee and I'd like to welcome Marina Donovan of SSNI who is leading this activity.
We are now preparing for the next all member meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, April 12-13. The meeting will be a great opportunity to hear in-depth industry insight on the adoption of open standards driving the implementation of smart cities, smart utility networks and IoT deployments, as well as to network with other Wi-SUN Alliance members.
Our priorities for this coming quarter include:
i) advancing the FAN certification program as we head towards delivering certified products to the market in the second half of this year.
ii) completing the enhanced HAN certification program, offering greater functionality of HAN products from Wi-SUN members.
iii) extending our global certification program.
Now is an exciting time for IoT communications and Wi-SUN Alliance is at the forefront. We look forward to your active participation.
Regards, Phil Beecher
