Wi-SUN Alliance Newsletter
Message from Phil Beecher, PresidentDear Wi-SUN Alliance Members,
To date, 2017 has been an exciting and important time for Wi-SUN Alliance as we have seen great progress in a number of areas including 2 key announcements:
1) Wi-SUN Alliance has selected GlobalSign to provide certificate authority services to our members. The partnership with GlobalSign is a significant step in our Field Area Network (FAN) certification program and demonstrates our commitment to lead the way in IoT communications technology, ensuring that security is central to our strategy.
2) Wi-SUN Alliance has signed a liaison agreement with the DLMS User Association, which will further enhance the growth of a standardised ecosystem for Smart Utility and Smart City networks.
Over the last three months we have seen our membership continue to increase to over 170 members, with new members from across the globe including utilities, product and silicon vendors.
Great progress has been made with the Field Area Network (FAN) Profile and certification program as we continue to work rigorously towards our next major milestones:
-Launch of the FAN certification program
-Introduction and rollout of FAN certified products
For quite some time the scale of deployment of Wi-SUN compatible devices has been the industry’s best-kept secret, but with our continued marketing and PR efforts Wi-SUN is becoming known as a key influence in the IoT space among media and analysts.
In September, we hosted a successful member meeting at the Hilton Waikoloa Village, Big Island, Hawaii. Colton Ching, Project Manager at HECO, gave an insightful presentation describing how Wi-SUN is playing a key role for Smart Utility Networks. Thank you to those who participated: it was a great opportunity for members to meet face to face.
We also had strong presence at European Utility Week where we signed the liaison agreement with the DLMS User Association. As we close out on 2017 maintaining and building upon this momentum is critical as we set our sights on an even more productive 2018!
